Night Horse

Horsehead Rock gets a lot of attention from photographers visiting the southeast coast of Australia and rightly so. But once again this means the world is flush with images of this rock formation and my desire has never been to faithfully reproduce an image I've seen somewhere in a magazine or on social media. I shot this the night after another image in this gallery (Somewhere out there...) and some of the same conditions prevailed: a partly hidden Milky Way rising and air glow close to the horizon. The big difference was a band of thunderstorms that moved through early in the night. Despite many attempts, I couldn't quite manage to capture a lightening bolt, plus the Milky Way and everything else in a satisfactory composition.
